Renogram - DTPA

  • Preparation for the scan is required. Please contact our practice.

This is a dynamic study for the assessment of individual renal function. Useful for evaluating renovascular hypertension, PUJ obstruction (a blockage of the flow of urine from the renal pelvis to the ureter), hydronephrosis, renal failure and renal transplants. The basic renogram can also be performed with diuresis and a reflux study can be done at the end of the study. An estimate of GFR (a test used to check how well the kidneys are working) can also be obtained. Patients must normally be well hydrated and in children special arrangements may be necessary. A straightforward study takes about 45 minutes.
